Qualisys was established in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1989 by a small team of entrepreneurial engineers with a vision for advancing technology in the field of motion capture.
Today, Qualisys provides solutions that empower researchers, engineers, and professionals in various fields to achieve their goals with accuracy and efficiency. Since Vätterleden Invest acquired a majority stake in the company in 2016, and Ingemar Pettersson assumed the role as CEO in 2021, Qualisys has maintained its commitment to innovation and growth, carrying forward the visionary spirit.
Our history
Pioneering Motion Capture Technology
–Founded in 1989 in Gothenburg, Sweden, Qualisys quickly gained traction with its core technology. Among its first customers was ABB, a global leader in automation, which integrated Qualisys’ camera into its crane control systems.
Expanding Motion Capture Boundaries
–The 2000s marked pivotal advancements for Qualisys, including the launch of QTM software in 2002, which enabled 2D/3D capture. Breakthroughs such as underwater and outdoor capture, along with a new camera platform, facilitated an expansion into North America in 2007.
Asian Expansion & Innovation
–In 2011, a sales office with a dedicated team was established in Shanghai. Technological advancements in motion capture were significant, with approximately 10,000 cameras sold worldwide by 2015 since the company’s inception.
New Ownership & Certifications
–Vätterledens Invest acquired a majority stake in Qualisys, becoming the principal owner. The company also earned ISO 9001:2015 certification and launched its Clinical System as a medical device under the MDD in Europe and FDA in the USA.
Advancing Motion Capture with Arqus
–Qualisys introduced the Arqus platform, the industry’s highest-performing motion capture camera. This innovation was followed by the Arqus Underwater, which solidified Qualisys’ leadership in aquatic motion capture. Additionally, the Arqus MRI was launched, becoming the world’s only motion capture camera designed for MR environments. Qualisys also opened an additional office in Singapore.
